TURN UP YOUR RADIO -- Magic 98 Hosting Three-Day Fundraiser Concert for Gilda’s Club

Magic 98 (98.1 FM) is hosting a Concert for Gilda’s Club on Wednesday, June 6, Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8 from 7:00am to 7:00pm daily. This is the second time Magic 98 has held a Concert for Gilda’s Club to help raise awareness and funds for Gilda’s Club Madison Wisconsin. In 2006, Magic 98’s Concert for Gilda’s Club raised more than $120,000.

"We'd like to surpass last year's fundraising total," said Magic 98 Program Director Pat O’Neill. "Everyone at Magic 98 is committed to building a Gilda’s Club in Madison." Lanette Hansen, Magic 98’s Promotions Director added, “Magic 98 is as local as it gets and we feel strongly that our community needs and deserves a Gilda’s Club – that’s why we do this."

The Concert for Gilda’s Club will feature clips of live music performances from artists regularly heard on Magic 98. Barry Alvarez, University of Wisconsin’s Athletic Director and Gilda’s Club Capital Campaign Co-Chair will kick-off the concert as guest DJ. During the three day event, Barry will join his wife, Cindy, Magic 98 on-air talent, and other celebrities and friends of Gilda’s Club Madison Wisconsin.

Cindy Alvarez is Chair of the Board of Gilda’s Club Madison Wisconsin and Capital Campaign Co-Chair. “Magic 98 has been great,” she said. “We are very thankful for their continuing support and talent.”

Tune in and tell a friend!

Thank you to all who have volunteered for this big fundraising event. Your time and talent is appreciated!

Google Internship Goes to UW Student

Caitlin Krois, a University of Wisconsin student, was selected for the Google summer internship. Google had offered a paid eight week summer internship in advertising sales. This is only the second time Google has provided an item such as this for a charity auction. The winning bid was $8,200 and all proceeds go to Gilda’s Club Madison Wisconsin.

“I want to thank you tremendously for allowing such an amazing opportunity!” said Krois. She is currently studying abroad and will return to the U.S. for the internship in New York.

We Celebrate Gilda!

Gilda Radner’s birthday is June 28.

Gilda said, “No one should go through cancer alone.” It was her dream to create a warm, welcoming place where children, men, and women with any type of cancer can go to share the full range of their feelings, needs, hopes, tears, and laughter along with their family and friends.

That place is Gilda’s Club.

Build Gilda’s Club Madison Wisconsin Clubhouse—A Progress Report

The architects at Flad & Associates and the Gilda’s Club Madison Wisconsin Building Committee have put much time and consideration into the space plan and building layout which has gone through a value re-engineering process to optimize the design in relation to the Gilda’s Club program.

We will have a building of close to 15,000 square feet available on two floors and a lower level. There will be beautiful landscaping and ample on-site parking at the clubhouse, to be located in Discovery Springs, Middleton, WI.

In order to proceed with the building and keep on schedule, the campaign goal of $3.5 million dollars needs to be raised by Sept 30 of this year. Please check our website—www.gildasclubmadison.org—for updated tribute opportunities. There are still wonderful opportunities to make a significant difference in our community. Consider funding a “Wing” at $300,000 or the Community Pavilion at $500,000, or the Building for $1,000,000! Of course, there are many giving levels in-between. Every gift is important and brings us that much closer to clubhouse construction.

If you have any questions, want, please contact us at info@gildasclubmadison.org or 608/273-8880.

Club 5 Fundraiser Fun & Successful!

Thanks to the hard work of Michael Grindle and Shawn Michael, Spring Fever, a musical extravaganza held the end of April raised $920 in support of Gilda’s Club Madison Wisconsin.

What a Great Idea!

We thought you would appreciate this letter...

I am writing to share with you the donations I’ve collected for Gilda’s Club. I recently celebrated my 11th birthday and instead of my friends bringing me presents, I requested that they make a donation to Gilda’s Club. Enclosed is $615 for Gilda’s Club. Aren’t my friends great!?!

At my party I provided each of my friends with a party bag that included a microwave cake kit with Gilda’s logo. I’m hoping this friendly reminder will get them to consider additional donations to Gilda’s...or perhaps a birthday party donation like mine. I’m providing you with a supply of these cakes so you can use them to inspire other kids to support Gilda’s Club.

Last year my donations went to breast cancer research. This year I’m directing them to Gilda’s Club because I like the work your organization does to support people with cancer. You keep up the good work...and I’ll keep up the fundraising.

Sincerely,

Alexandra Miles

What a Great Idea!

Dean Health Plan held a Bake-Off at their office in Madison, WI. Fellow employees voted on their favorite baked item by putting money in a box in front of the dessert. A total of $219.51 was raised.

Gilda’s Club picked the overall champion. It was delicious!

What a Great Idea!

Another lovely letter...

It is with pleasure that Beta Sigma Phi-Gamma Chapter of Madison, WI donates $500 to Gilda’s Club. We are appreciative of the service you provide in the support of cancer patients and their families. Most all of us have been touched by cancer at some time in our lives and we, at Beta Sigma Phi, unanimously decided to donate our “annual” donation to your support community.

Kind Regards,

Maureen Bradley, Vice President Beta Sigma Phi—Gamma Chapter

Let’s Laugh!

In the spirit of Gilda, let’s laugh…

Q. Where does ice cream go to school?

A: Sundae school!
